Congratulations! You have taken the first step towards learning the art of speaking, listening and thinking by deciding to join Toastmasters. We know you are eager to actually get started and have your first taste of the Varsity toastmasters experience. Here are a few pointers that we think will help your experience be most pleasant and rewarding.
Joining Varsity Toastmasters
Once you decide to join our club you must complete a Toastmasters Membership Application Form available from our VP Membership, and pay a joining fee. The joining fee for Varsity Toastmasters is a one off payment of $40.00 and $75.00 every six months. We encourage you to visit us a couple of times, and participate in meetings before you join so you get a chance to know the club members and how the club works beforehand.
When the club accepts your application, you are officially voted in as a member of the club. This mean you can receive your Communication and Leadership Manual which contains your first ten speech assignments. You also receive a monthly subscription to "The Toastmaster" magazine which is crammed full of interesting articles and news about Toastmasters all over the world.
Your First Speech
You can now get started on preparing your on your first speech! The first speech in the CLM manual is called an Ice Breaker. Here you have the chance to introduce yourself to the club and tell them a little bit about yourself.
Remember - its okay to feel nervous. Fear of public speaking is one of the most common fears expressed by people. Varsity toastmasters is a warm and safe environment for you to overcome your nervousness and with practice, gain skills to capture your audience and effectively communicate your message.

Public speaking can be a very rewarding and exciting experience. As a member of Toastmasters you will meet people from many different backgrounds and skills. Do not hesitate to talk your fellow club members about any questions you have or to share your experiences.
