Varsity Toastmasters Club 0680, Area A1, Division A, District 72Club Achievements
In the past years, Varsity club has won a number of awards within the Toastmasters organization. These include a Distinguished Club award in 1999, Presidents Distinguished Club award in 2000 and Select Distinguished Club award in 2003.
Contest Achievements
Each year Toastmasters conducts 4 contests that are held to encourage the development of speakers skills, to recognise the best as encouragement to all, and to provide an opportunity to learn. This is done by observing the more proficient speakers who have benefited from all their Toastmasters training.
The contests held are the Table Topics, Humourous, Evaluation and International Contests. Details of Varsity representatives at the most challenging Toastmasters contest, the International contest can be found here http://internationalcontest.blogspot.com/
We made a particularly strong showing during the 2004 speech contests, winning two 1st prizes (in the Humorous and International Contests) and two 2nd prizes (in the Table topics and Evaluation Contests) at Area level. During the Division Contest, the hugely funny Scott McGregor and past president Jasvir Nagra represented the club in the humorous and international divisions respectively and Jasvir brought back to the club the Area 1 "International Speech Contest" trophy!
In 2005 Jasvir eclipsed his performances in 2004 by taking out the title of New Zealand Public Speaking Champion by winning the 2005 New Zealand International Speech Contest. In August 2005 Jasvir represented New Zealand in Toronto, Canada in the 2005 World Championship of Public Speaking. He won third place in the Interdistrict contest.
Below are the contestants that have won at Varsity Toastmasters, and the highest ranking they achieved after the club level contest.
